MINUTES OF THE

                             CENTRAL CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION

                                                 February 18, 2008

 

The Central City Board of Education met at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 18th, 2008 in the Central City Board of Education room at 1711 15th Avenue.  Roll call showed the following members present: Sally Armatys, Steve Belitz, Kim Benner, Dave Christensen, Kent Malm, and Dale Palser. Also present were Dr. Jeff West, Superintendent; Shawn McDiffett, High School Principal; Dick Moore, Middle School Principal, and Darlene Darbro, Elementary Principal. Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Benner, seconded by Armatys, that it is hereby determined that this meeting was preceded by advanced publicized notice in the Republican-Nonpariel newspaper and by posting notice at the Superintendent's Office at 1711 15th Avenue, and is hereby declared to be duly convened in open session. Motion carried 6-0. Ayes: Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser. Nayes: None. Absent: None.

 

The school district treasurer's financial report disclosed a reconciled unencumbered balance of $534,440.77 as of January 31, 2008.

 

The high school activities fund account disclosed a balance on January 31st, 2008 of $128,534.58, middle school activity fund disclosed a balance of $19,156.93, and the elementary activity fund disclosed a balance of $16,597.45.  The cafeteria account disclosed a balance of $28,784.87.

 

It was moved by Palser, seconded by Armatys, to add item #2 to the agenda to update the Fine Arts Center.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Malm, seconded by Christensen, to approve the minutes of the January 14th, 2008 board meeting and the special meetings held  January 9th  and 30th.  Motion carried 6-0. Ayes: Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser. Nayes: None. Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Belitz, seconded by Malm, to waive the deadline and allow Clay Koziol to option into the Central City School District from Fullerton Public School for the 2007-2008 school year; and Jacob Williams to option out of the Central City School District to Palmer Public School for the 2008-2009 school year.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Benner, seconded by Armatys, to approve the 2008-2009 driver’s education fee of $220 for in district students and $250 for out of district students and set teachers hourly wage at $20.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Benner, seconded by Armatys, to recognize the Wrestling team for their accomplishments and the following students that made it to state:  Tyler Bolling, Kevin Smith, Logan Williams, Matthew Maresh, Kam Lenhart, Noland Broekemier, Noah Broekemier, Travis Maresh, Myles Butt, Tyson Sutton, and Bobby VanPelt.  In addition, Micah Carlson, David Clarke, Jill Gathje and Charles Royle represented the Middle School at the Merrick County Spelling Bee.  Micah Carlson received 3rd place and David Clarke placed 6th place in the fifth and sixth grade.  Kolby Bogatz, Adom Carbonell, Lydia Rodysill and Jaydon Stuart all made it to the final oral round in the seventh and eighth grade Spelling Bee.  The Board of Education also wishes to recognize the students who participated in the Sing Around Nebraska:  Katrina Gomez, Elizabeth Orona, Taylor Beck, Jeremiah Dickinson, Kayla Wagner, Hope Baldwin, Jill Gathje, Katie Benner, Emily Roberts, Ashton Stuart, Brianna Bankson, Morgan Boroviak, Brittney Jefferson, Alexis Ohlman, Randi Tomasek, Mollie Maresh, Hannah Myers, Meagen Dittmer, Nick Mack and Lindsay Mousel.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Benner, seconded by Malm, to approve administrative contract for Darlene Darbro.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser. Nayes:  None.  Absent: None.

 

It was moved by Armatys, seconded by Christensen, to approve administrative contract for Dick Moore.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Belitz, seconded by Armatys, to approve administrative contract for Shawn McDiffett.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Palser, seconded by Christensen, to approve administrative contract for Jeff West.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Malm, seconded by Armatys, to approve the February warrants.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.

 

It was moved by Armatys, seconded by Malm, to accept the February Investment Plan.  Motion carried 6-0.  Ayes:  Armatys, Belitz, Benner, Christensen, Malm, and Palser.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.
