Reading Counts!

Students in grades 2—4 participate in a computerized reading enhancement program known as Reading Counts. Reading Counts is a reading motivation and management program that helps encourage and monitor our students’ independent reading.

Homework Club

Students in the third and fourth grades may participate in an after school program known as Homework Club. Homework Club is an assisted work time for students meeting from 3:15— 4:00 pm. A certificated staff member is present to help students complete their assignments.

Field Trips

Every class at the Central City Elementary School participates in a field trip experience yearly. Our students attend presentations at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, the Hastings Museum, the Edgerton Center in Aurora, and Lied Center and State Capitol in Lincoln. Our students also visit the local hospital, dentists’ offices, and other local businesses and facilities.

All Day, Every Day Kindergarten

Our all day, every day kindergarten program began in the 2003-2004 school year. Full-day kindergarten programs that are developmentally appropriate for kindergarten age children have been found to provide cognitive, social, physical, and emotional benefits for children.

Breakfast Program

Our school provides a breakfast program before school for those parents and students wanting to participate.

Parent-Teacher Organization

Central City Elementary School has a PTO that sponsors several activities for our students throughout the year. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in supporting our students in their activities.

Technology Instruction

Keyboarding and basic computer operation instruction is provided in the fourth grade. Students in grades K—3 have the use of computers and other technology to practice their skill mastery.

Pre-School Program

Our pre-school program, Tiny Bison Preschool, is a half-day program for children who will be attending our kindergarten program during the next school year. Our pre-school program is based on developmentally appropriate learning experiences and is a partnership with Central Nebraska Community Services and the Central City Public Schools..
