Central City Middle School

Newsletter for February/March 2008

Parents of students will be able to keep abreast of school related information by tuning into one of the following:  KZEN (KZ 100) radio in Columbus or KSYZ (107.7) radio in Grand Island, KOLN-KGIN TV in Lincoln/Grand Island, NTV in Kearney, KHAS TV in Hastings or Channel 19 on Cable TV in Central City.  Please do not attempt to phone school officials during these times as those persons are extremely busy gathering information on what is the best course of action.

School will not be in session on February 14th (professional development) and February 15th.

School will not be in session on March 6th (professional development) and March 7th.

Achievement Testing

Students in elementary, middle school, and high school (grades 9 and 11 only) will be taking Achievement Tests the week of April 2-5 for high school and middle school and April 2-12 for elementary students. Please make every effort to plan routine appointments, vacations or other unessential activities for another time. Making up a test can be very stressful and causes students to miss more time out of class.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 8TH GRADERS

8th Grade students will be registering for high school classes during their English and/or Literature classes in March. School counselors Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Clarke will assist students in selecting classes, based on recommendations from their 8th grade teachers. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the registration process. Individual appointments with students and parents will be provided. More information will be coming as the dates are scheduled.

It’s never too early to Explore Careers!

Parents should have received Exploring Careers -- a publication from EducationQuest Foundation – in January. This publication is designed to help you discuss career options with your eighth grade student. Exploring Careers provides:

·         information about career fields and “career clusters”

·         suggested coursework and activities for each cluster

·         profiles of Nebraskans working in careers that require different education levels

(over)

This publication is part of a pilot program in which EducationQuest is providing college and career planning materials to parents of eighth graders at 14 Nebraska middle schools - including ours! If you didn’t receive Exploring Careers or have questions about the pilot program, contact Mrs. Clarke at the Middle School.
